A Doodle for a Cause

My page of doodling for National Doodle Day.

As promised, here is my doodle/page of doodling for National Doodle Day!

So, I was gonna try just creating one image, but I don’t do well with stuff like that, so I just pulled out a writing pad last period (I had study hall, so I had plenty of time) and started doodling whatever wanted to be doodled.

This was the result.

I honestly don’t know what to make of it all, but… You know. Whatever. It’s the thought the counts.

I managed to turn the letters of my name into monsters of some sort. That made me very happy. I also drew the sun I always made when I was little. And when I say always, I mean always. Every paper from when I was in elementary school had a little sun with sunglasses in the corner.

Yeah, I was cool (not).

I started filling the corner up with flowers, but then they started becoming blurs of dots and squiggles, and I got bored. I ended up making a rendition of the Avengers symbol. My closest friend group kind of has a thing for them.

The heart balloons I sort of decided were my thing a long time ago. If I ever have a logo for anything, that will be it. So please don’t steal it from me or anything.

And the serpent thing’s name is Dan.

The rest has absolutely no rhyme or reason, which I guess is the usual outcome of doodling. Anyway, that’s my doodling for the day! Remember, if you created any doodles today, I’d love to see them!

Celebrate this wonderful day with me!

Today’s Holiday: National Doodle Day

Febrary 5, 2016

Best thing about today: your teachers can’t get mad at you for doodling on you papers.

I love the idea of this holiday. I myself have never been much into doodling on my papers, but today I’m going to try. Hopefully I don’t annoy my teachers too much (though I expect most of them will just be amused). I’ve always wanted to turn my words into monsters.

Seriously, though. This is an amazing holiday. And actually, it’s not really a holiday. It’s an anual fundraiser set up by Epilepsy Action.

I love the way the National Doodle Day official website describes it. “On Friday 5 February 2016, friends, family and famous faces will join together to draw a line through epilepsy.”

I love the way they phrased that. It really gives the day that much more meaning.

I’m having a pretty good day, so I’m getting really into the celebration of this one. In fact, once I finish my doodle to celebrate the day, I’ll post it to show you all.

I may have no artistic talent, but I’m not ashamed.

I challenge all of you to do the same. Make a doodle to celebrate the day, take a picture of it, and post it somewhere for all to see. I’d love it if you would drop me a comment telling me if you do it, and where it’s posted so I can see. I don’t plan on making a big deal out of it, so be fearless.

Whether you’re a great artist or a terrible one like me, join the cause! Spread the word, spread awareness! And maybe make a donation too, if you can!

Check in later to see a picture of the terrible doodle I’ll soon create!

Today’s Holiday: USO Day

February 4, 2016

The USO, which stands for United Service Organization, is a wonderful organization that was founded on this day in 1941.

I myself have never heard of it, so I looked up some information about it. Turns out it’s a non-profit organization that works with America’s troops and their families with the sole purpose of paying them back for their sacrifices for this country.

I found that there are six civilian organizations under the USO: the Salvation Army, Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA), Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA), National Catholic Community Service, National Travellers Aid Association and National Jewish Welfare Board. (Info from World’s Special Days)

Their motto, “Until Every One Comes Home”, is just beautiful. At least, in my opinion. Seriously, you can’t get any more emotional than that.

Beyond that, there isn’t much else. I might visit the Salvation Army to celebrate the day, or try to find some donation area for one of the organiztions. That would be nice.

Either way, this day should be celebrated, so I’ll find a way. The USO is an amazing organization and should be recognized.

Today’s Holiday: The Day the Music Died

February 3, 2016

On this day in 1959, a tragic event occured, one that left a mark on history.

Buddy Holly and his band were performing on the “Winter Dance Party” tour, along with rising artists Ritchie Valens and J.P. Ritchardson. After stopping at Clear Lake to perform, Holly became frustrated with the conditions of the tour (the winter was making the long bus rides uncomfortable to say the least) and chartered a plane.

Not everyone could fit on the plane. It was a four seater, with the pilot included. Because Holly chartered the plane, he got one seat. Richardson had the flu and Valens won a coin toss, so they took the other two seats while the rest of Holly’s band went by bus.

The dark night and wintery conditions made flying difficult. Soon after takeoff, the pilot, Roger Peterson, lost control of the plane. They crashed into a cornfield.

There were no survivors.

The day became known as The Day the Music Died when Don McLean referred to it as such in his song “American Pie”.

To remember the tragic event, I’ll be listening to the song “American Pie”. I haven’t done it just yet, so I can’t say anything about it. I can’t promise I will, either. I’m not much good at discussing music.

Until tomorrow!

P.S. If you haven’t noticed it yet, I have a tab at the top called The Holiday Philosophy. In the drop down, you’ll find the calender I’m putting together of daily holidays. It’s a work in progress, obviously, and probably won’t get too far until spring break. At the very least, I’ll keep it updated.

Today’s Holiday’s: Hedgehog Day

Febrary 2, 2016

Yes, I know it’s also Groundhog Day. Obviously. And I’m quite happy that we don’t have six more weeks of winter. However, I’d much rather celebrate the absolute adorableness that is the hedgehog.

I mean, just look at them!!!

Oh my gosh, cuteness overload!!!!

My friend and I actually both want a pet hedgehog. We were planning on getting one if we went to college together. You know, get an apartment a ways off campus, get a hedgehog. Life would have been good.

Sadly, we aren’t going to college together. But that’s okay. One day, I’ll get a pet hedgehog, and it’ll be the cutest little hedgehog EVER!!!

For now, I’ll just be celebrating the holiday by looking through pictures of hedgehogs and dying from the cuteness.

Cutness. Overload.

Today’s Holidays!!! #2

February 1, 2016

Sorry I missed the last two days. I got pretty busy and of course I haven’t made a queue for posts yet. I’ll try to make one for the daily holidays as soon as possible, just to make sure you guys get one of these posts every day.

It doesn’t really matter what yesterday’s holidays were, so I’ll get right into today’s:

  • Happy Car Insurance Day!
  • Happy Change Your Password Day!
  • Happy Decorating With Candy Day!
  • Happy G.I. Joe Day!
  • Happy Hula in the Coola Day!
  • Happy National Baked Alaska Day!
  • Happy National Freedom Day!
  • Happy National Serpent Day!
  • Happy Robinson Crusoe Day!
  • Happy Spunky Old Broads Day!

Wow, that takes a while to list. You know, I may have to find a way to just set up a calender you guys can look at, or maybe connect a website with the holidays? Hm. I think making my own clender would be best. Anyone know how to do that? Then I could talk about the actual holidays more!

Anyway. Looking at that list of holidays, the one that stands out most is definitely Hula in the Coola Day. What the heck? That makes no sense.

After completing some very in depth research, I have discovered that this holiday is for the insane. The point of the holiday is to go out in the cold and pretend it’s warm. As in, go outside in a grass skirt and showy shirt and do the hula in the snow. Maybe toss on a few leis to complete the look.

Yeah, I think I’ll pass on that one.

Luckily, Hula in the Coola isn’t the only holiday today. There are multiple others to choose from and celebrate. I’m thinking decorating some stuff with candy would be fun.

Whatever you choose to celebrate, I hope you have a blast! Make every day a holiday!

Tomorrow’s holidays:

How about I try to make that calender now? If it doesn’t work, I apologize. I’ll let you know tomorrow what you’ll be celebrating.

Today’s Holidays!!!

January 29, 2016

  • Happy Curmudgeons Day!
  • Happy Earned Income Tax Credit Awareness Day!
  • Happy Freethinkers Day!
  • Happy National Carnation Day!
  • Happy Corn Chip Day!
  • Happy National Preschool Health and Fitness Day!
  • Happy National Puzzle Day!
  • Happy Seeing Eye Dog Day!
  • Happy Thomas Paine Day!

Wow, that’s a lot of celebrating. I honestly never realized there were so many holidays on any given day… But, hey, that’s great! All the more reason to celebrate!

So I saw that first holiday, Curmudgeons Day, and thought, what the heck is a curmudgeon? Well, I looked it up, and here’s what I found:

A curmudgeon is basically just a bad-tempered person. Though there isn’t a real reason for the holiday to be today or for it to even be a holiday, it’s still fun nonetheless. You can either spend the day being as grumpy as possible, or try to keep people from being a curmudgeon. However you choose to celebrate it, it’s super fun and should be celebrated!

I hope you have a wonderful day of celebration! Here’s a preview of tomorrow’s holidays:

  • National Croissant Day
  • National Escape Day
  • National Inane Answering Message Day
  • National Seed Swap Day
  • School Day of Non-violence and Peace
  • Yodel for Your Neighbors Day

Day’s holidays

Proof that Curmudgeon’s Day is real
